Carrickfergus Cricket Club are pleased to announce the signing of former Glamorgan all-rounder Jeremy Lawlor for the 2021 season. The 24 year old Irish passport-holder has been playing his cricket for Phoenix in Dublin during the 2020 season, and also played two T20 matches for Munster Reds in the IP20 series earlier this month.
He has been unable to break into the very strong Leinster Lightning side, and has decided to move north, hoping that a productive season in the NCU Premier League will help him gain selection for the Northern Knights. He showed what he is capable of last month when he scored a superb 90 opening the batting for the South v North at Malahide in the Development Series.
Lawlor, an opening or top order batsman who bowls a lively fast medium pace as well as off spin, played for Wales from Under 13 to Under 16 age groups, and then spent 5 seasons on the Glamorgan staff. He made eleven first class and five List A appearances for Glamorgan and Cardiff MCCA before his release by the county at the end of the 2019 season. During that time he scored 384 first class runs @ 24.00, with three fifties and a highest score of 81, as well as taking 7 wickets.
Carrickfergus CC Chairman Billy Crook expressed his delight with the Club’s latest signing and went on to say “Jeremy is a quality player and will undoubtedly strengthen our squad. This signing shows the ambition of our Club, and we hope to announce further signings in the near future”
